Assignment: This week we will begin designing the animal habitats for our zoo/wildlife sanctuary. There are several requirements for your habitat:
1. It must provide all of things the animals living in the habitat need to live a happy, healthy life. (go back to your voicethread and research to review what you will need to include)
2. It must be realistic and authentic. Don't create anything for your zoo that does not really exist. That means you can be creative with how you use the materials that exist on Earth, but you cannot just make up a new plant species.
3. This week you will create the outline for the exhibit. Your outline should include:
the dimensions of the spaces needed for the exhibit
the land features (rocks, soil, water, etc) needed
the plant species that will be growing in the environment
the animals that will be included in the exhibit (how many of each)
4. Think about...
How much space will the exhibit need?
How will you keep the animal(s) contained in the exhibit?
Will the animal be alone or with other animals (members of the same species or will there be other species in the exhbit)?
What will the animal use for shelter? Where will it sleep?
Where will the animal get food/water from?
How will you maintain the cleanliness of the exhibit?
How will you ensure the animal's health, safety and well being?
4. You will need to decide whether you will create a digital layout using Google Sketchup, a hand drawn diagram of the exhibit, or a physical model. If you create a hand drawn diagram you will need to scan it to submit it, or fax it to me 303-499-3084 and I will scan it for you. If you create a physical model you will need to take a digital picture to submit. Please let me know this week how you plan to create your exhibit.
5. If you are working in a group, you need to decide who is responsible for each aspect of the project.
